REACTIONS: Helen Caldicott vs. Vermont Yankee
Download or listen now (41 MB mp3).
A funny and scary talk by veteran antinuclear activist Dr. Helen Caldicott. She spoke in April 2009, in Brattleboro, Vermont, near the decrepit Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant. Although the plant was well past its "Discard by" date, its corporate owners had applied for yet another license extension.
Caldicott shows that, even when functioning "perfectly," nuclear plants are killers.
Alas, her funny story of an impromptu nude antinuke march in San Francisco--in which she participated--failed to inspire the Vermonters to go and do likewise. Even though public nudity is legal in Vermont. Go figure.
This installment's profusely-illustrated Web page includes satiric reflections on political nudity plus my favorite limerick. Does anyone else remember Christine Keeler?

TUC Radio
I discovered Maria Gilardin's TUC Radio nearly 2 decades ago. It has been a large influence on New World Notes, and it remains one of my favorite radio programs.
