In brief

Not Frank Capra's propaganda classic of the 1940s but a different award-winning documentary with the same name. Eugene Jarecki's film won the Grand Jury Prize of the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.

A tapestry of many threads, Why We Fight depicts the U.S. war machine, the Military-Industrial Complex, and U.S. imperialism since World War Two. My much-condensed radio version follows just a few of the threads. It includes expert commentary by Gore Vidal, John S.D. Eisenhower, and the late Chalmers Johnson.

Interwoven is the story of Wilton Sekzer, a retired NYC cop . . . grief-stricken at the death of his son in the Twin Towers, yearning for revenge against the perpetrators, who he had been led to believe were the Iraqis. He sought a memorial to his son, and eventually a large bomb was dropped on Baghdad bearing the inscription, "In loving memory of Jason Sekzer" (see photo).

He now struggles with the knowledge that the Iraqis were innocent of 9/11 and that he had been deceived by his President.

Over the past 10 years, Chalmers Johnson did much to popularize the term blowback . . . and the insight that the United States in fact is an empire. He died on November 20, 2010. Gore Vidal and Michael Parenti, likewise, have long argued that our republic has become an empire.

In (not overly) brief

Not two but three buildings of the World Trade Center collapsed on September 11, 2001. Each collapsed suddenly, onto its own footprint, at near-freefall speed, spewing forth tons of minutely pulverized concrete. Each collapse bore a certain resemblance to a controlled demolition.

The third to go was Building 7, about a block away from the Twin Towers. It was a 47-story steel-framed skyscraper of conventional architecture and construction. It was not hit by an airplane. It suffered only a few minor office fires on a few floors. It came down, in 6.5 seconds, at about 5:20 PM.

BBC America and CNN each announced the collapse about a half hour before it occurred. In both reports, the building can be seen standing, apparently unperturbed, through the picture window behind the news anchor.

The 9-11 Commission Report does not discuss Building 7. The collapse was finally discussed in a report--released only in the last days of the Bush administration--by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). They conclude that the collapse was caused by fire.

If true, WTC-7 is the only steel-framed high-rise building in the history of the world ever to have collapsed from fire. (Oddly, New York has not yet revised its Building Code.)

In this installment, Professor David Ray Griffin discusses the mysterious collapse of WTC-7 and shows that the NIST report is a work of massive scientific fraud.

A real investigation into the events of 9-11-2001 is needed. Don't hold your breath, waiting.

Most of us have seen--hundreds of times--televised video clips of the collapse of the Twin Towers. Few Americans have ever seen any video of the collapse of Building 7. Plenty exist. How do we account for the discrepancy?

Executive Summary

The distinguished professor of philosophy of science and philosophy of religion (emeritus) David Ray Griffin--one of the leading scholars in the so-called "9/11 Truth" movement--spoke at the University of Hartford on May 7. Two installments of the show will broadcast major portions of Griffin's lucid, fact-filled, carefully reasoned, witty and fascinating speech. He gave it the title, "Is the War in Afghanistan justified by 9/11?"

Griffin is a meticulous and judicious scholar, and his evidence is from reliable sources--much of it from official U.S. Government documents. When he discusses 9/11, Griffin is not advancing his own pet theory of what happened so much as demolishing the Crackpot Conspiracy Theory proffered by the media, the government, and the 9/11 Commission.

In Part 1 (NWN # 120), Griffin shows that the war in Afghanistan (like the one in Iraq) is based on lies--lies Obama continues to recite. In fact, Bush authorized the invasion 2 months before 9/11 and scheduled it for October.

Griffin then focuses on 9/11, demonstrating that the government has made public no credible evidence that (1) bin Laden was involved or that (2) Muslims hijacked the four planes or that (3) any of the 19 alleged hijackers were on any of the 4 flights.

In Part 2 (NWN #121), Griffin continues to demolish the Official Story of 9/11. He shows that cell-phone calls to passengers' relatives could not have been made from the four flights--as the FBI also has concluded. We know of hijackers only from these faked calls.

We know of boxcutters only from one call--allegedly made on a cell phone by Barbara Olson, on Flight 77, to her husband Ted, a high official in the Bush Administration and reported by Ted. The FBI eventually concluded that no such call was made (and the aircraft did not have seatback phones).

In fact, Griffin argues, no good evidence has been made public that any highjackings occurred, and some evidence indicates that none did. Of the eight pilots, not one entered the "Hijacking-in-Progress" code ("7500") into the plane's transponder.

A current U.S. Navy history of the Maine notes that "The survivors
of the disaster were taken on board . . . Spanish cruiser Alfonso XII. The
Spanish officials at Havana showed every attention to the survivors of the
disaster and great respect for those killed. The court of inquiry convened
in March was unable to obtain evidence associating the destruction of the
battleship with any person or persons, but public opinion in the United
States was so inflamed that the Maine disaster led eventually to the
declaration of war on Spain 21 April."
That last sentence is disingenuous. In fact, the McKinley
Administration had decided to go to war with Spain long
before the Maine exploded and used the misfortune to rouse
public support for launching a war that had few justifications.


In brief:

"False-flag" ops are incidents used to justify war or abolition of civil liberties. These incidents are staged, or misrepresented, or imaginary.

This week I review the major types of "false-flag operations"--with details on the battleship Maine (1898) and U.S. Air Force provocations of the USSR during the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962). Guess who saved the world in 1962. Nikita Khrushchev! Then ex-MI-5 agent Annie Machon discusses terrorism by both sides in Northern Ireland (1990s), operations Gladio (post-WWII) and Northwoods (1962), and 9-11. Last, she details the huge loss of civil liberties in the U.K. following 9-11.

In brief:

"False-flag" ops. are incidents used by the authorities to justify war or the revoking of civil liberties. These incidents are staged, or misrepresented, or imaginary. Ex-MI-5 agent Annie Machon discusses the London IRA bombings (1990s) and the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in London (1994). The latter, it turns out, was done by . . . Israel itself--for a purpose. I discuss the faked Polish invasion of Germany (1939), Gulf of Tonkin incident (1964), bombing of 3 Russian apartment buildings (1999), and the Underwear Bomber scam (December 2009). I try my hardest not to call 9-11 a false-flag op. Plus expert Rufus T. Firefly.

Top: the Reichstag fire, the morning after it began. The German parliament building was set ablaze on the night of February 27, 1933, possibly with the connivance of the NSDAP (Nazi party). Newly-installed Chancellor Hitler and cohort blamed the arson on the communists, persuaded President Hindenberg to suspend civil liberties (cf. the USA-PATRIOT Act), unseated and imprisoned left-wing MPs, and consolidated their own power. By removing the communist MPs, the Nazi party increased its lead in parliament from a plurality to a majority.
Bottom: On August 7, 1964--following in imaginary attack on a U.S. naval ship in Vietnam--Congress overwhelmingly passed a resolution giving the President carte blanche to wage war against the Vietnamese. A massive escalation of the war followed.

In September 1999, Russian state security forces bombed apartment buildings in three cities of the Russian Federation, including Moscow. Blamed on "Chechen terrorists," the incidents were used to justify Russia's invason of the troublesome Republic of Chechnya at the end of September. For some reason, the "Chechen terrorists" chose to bomb only low-rent apartment buildings.

Psychopaths With Occam's Razor

Exeutive summary

Hierarchies (government, military, & Wall Street) become top-heavy with psychopaths--all of whom are capable of harming others without feeling the slightest guilt, empathy, or remorse. The Official Explanation of each outrage they commit is always convoluted. The principle of "Occam's Razor" posits that (all else equal) simpler explanations are more likely to be true than explanations worthy of Rube Goldberg. An example of the latter is the Official Story of why there was no air defense on 9-11-2001.

Here's a simple, Occam-friendly explanation of U.S. foreign policy since 1990: The psychopaths are running the show for their own benefit.

In this program, various observers discuss the decade-long genocidal sanctions against the Iraqi people (1990s, mostly under Clinton), Jewish Nazi-collaborator George Soros, 9/11, and General S.L.A. Marshall's groundbreaking discovery of soldiers' extreme reluctance to kill other humans, even "enemy" troops.

We even end on a note of hope and optimism. After all, the normals still outnumber the psychopaths 20-to-1, and the psychos haven't yet succeeded in grabbing complete control of the Internet!

In both cases the viewer can see the very building--standing tall and in no obvious distress--through the picture window in the background, Did I mention that The 9-11 Commission Report doesn't even mention Building 7?

    Oh, yes, I've become a Building 7 buff! Of all the property that got smashed that day, WTC7 offers--per square foot--more fun, more improbable official explanations, more lies, more Sergeant Schultz ("I see Not'ink!") imitations by the media--than any other site. It's more fun than a barrel of Thermite!

    This week: A comic-satiric opening monologue on two hot-selling literary genres--Christian Porn and "Complete Idiots'" books "for Dummies"--somehow leads to a measured and reasoned introduction to the severe problems with the Official Story of 9-11. The title is, The Thinking (Wo)Man's Guide to 9-11.

    In olden times, popular books introducing a subject were given that sort of title. The Thinking man's Guide to Communist Subversion--not Communist Subversion for Dummies!



    This is a show for people--friends of yours?--who haven't looked into 9-11 issues much and who don't want to be seen as "conspiracy nuts." Speakers make a low-key, moderate, & persuasive case for having a new investigation into 9-11, to answer the many questions that remain unanswered. By design, the speakers don't make any claims that are especially hard to accept.

    For example, no one asserts that Cheney and Netanyahu planned the whole thing, with assistance from Pakistan's SIS and the Pope of Rome, in order to usher in the New World Order, destroy democracy, and transform the Knesset into the governing body of the planet.

    I'm not saying that this theory is wrong, understand. But the show is trying to persuade the uninvolved to look into the subject more than they have--not to scare them away.

    This week features nice overviews by ex-MI5 agent David Shayler and by KD.

    People knowledgeable about the events of 9-11-2001--and even those active in the "9-11 Truth" movement--might also enjoy this two-part series, as a handy overview and sorting of the differences between reality and the reality alleged by the 9-11 Commission Report.
