TSA: Teaching Submission to Americans?

New World Notes News
Vol. 3, No. 52 -- December 26, 2010

This week in New World Notes, radio program #147, Dec. 28:

TSA: Teaching Submission to Americans?

In brief

Thousands Standing Around? Testicle Squeezers of America?

Which is better, a police state run by the Gestapo or a police state run by the Keystone Kops? Answer: Neither, but what we've got is the latter.

"Security" indignities at the airport are part of a larger pattern of decreasing civil liberties and increasing Executive Branch power. With some modicum of humor, we look at the TSA's airport excesses in their larger context.

Includes a comic audio collage contributed by Scooter (of "The innerSide," on KPFT), the song "Don't Touch My Junk," and commentary by Glen Ford and Paul Craig Roberts.

PS: I also like Too Stupid for Arby's.

Here's a video with plenty more:

It may be time for a remake of Luis Bunuel's 1977 film, That Obscure Object of Desire. Thanks to Homeland Security hysteria, that object is much less obscure than she used to be. Is that a jewel in her navel (below)? Most graphics: Click to enlarge.

Or browse the show's Web site: Each installment has a page, and each page has links to the recorded audio.

Series overview: Political and social commentary in a variety of genres. Exploring the gap between what we want ... and what they're trying to make us settle for.

Top: Satire on Homeland Security's unceasing barrage of Terror Alerts. (Click to enlarge.) Bottom: Paul Craig Roberts, apparently on surveillance duty at the country club. Progressives and real conservatives like Roberts agree on many issues, among them defending the Bill of Rights.

David Ray Griffin on 9/11 and Afghanistan

New World Notes News
Vol. 3, No. 24-25 -- June 19 & 26, 2010

This Fortnight in New World Notes, radio programs #120 & 121, June 22 & 29:

David Ray Griffin
on 9/11 and
Afghanistan

Executive Summary

The distinguished professor of philosophy of science and philosophy of religion (emeritus) David Ray Griffin--one of the leading scholars in the so-called "9/11 Truth" movement--spoke at the University of Hartford on May 7. Two installments of the show will broadcast major portions of Griffin's lucid, fact-filled, carefully reasoned, witty and fascinating speech. He gave it the title, "Is the War in Afghanistan justified by 9/11?"

Griffin is a meticulous and judicious scholar, and his evidence is from reliable sources--much of it from official U.S. Government documents. When he discusses 9/11, Griffin is not advancing his own pet theory of what happened so much as demolishing the Crackpot Conspiracy Theory proffered by the media, the government, and the 9/11 Commission.

* * *

In Part 1 (NWN # 120), Griffin shows that the war in Afghanistan (like the one in Iraq) is based on lies--lies Obama continues to recite. In fact, Bush authorized the invasion 2 months before 9/11 and scheduled it for October.

Griffin then focuses on 9/11, demonstrating that the government has made public no credible evidence that (1) bin Laden was involved or that (2) Muslims hijacked the four planes or that (3) any of the 19 alleged hijackers were on any of the 4 flights.

Most photos: Click to enlarge.

In Part 2 (NWN #121), Griffin continues to demolish the Official Story of 9/11. He shows that cell-phone calls to passengers' relatives could not have been made from the four flights--as the FBI also has concluded. We know of hijackers only from these faked calls.

We know of boxcutters only from one call--allegedly made on a cell phone by Barbara Olson, on Flight 77, to her husband Ted, a high official in the Bush Administration and reported by Ted. The FBI eventually concluded that no such call was made (and the aircraft did not have seatback phones).

In fact, Griffin argues, no good evidence has been made public that any highjackings occurred, and some evidence indicates that none did. Of the eight pilots, not one entered the "Hijacking-in-Progress" code ("7500") into the plane's transponder.

Dr. David Ray Griffin in West Hartford, May 7, 2010.

Audio recording and photos of Griffin by Kenneth Dowst.

I have condensed the talk and omitted its final third, which concerns the mysterious collapse of WTC Building 7. (I will probably broadcast this at a future date.) The entire speech including introduction and Q&A--uncut, unedited; 2 hours 16 minutes--is available as a 128 kbps mp3 (128 MB).

Here's a short annotated bibliography of some good online resources on 9/11.

In August 2009, New World Notes broadcast a pair of shows as an intruduction to "9/11 Truth." Their blog entries (Web pages) are here and here. Each page includes links to the recorded audio.

New World Notes News
Vol. 3, No. 16 -- April 18, 2010

This Week in New World Notes, radio program #111, April 20:

The Unheard Voice
of the Majority

Joe Bageant, with crummy truck, posssibly at Gunther's Garage

In brief:
Social critics from both Left and Right feel that we're lonely kooks muttering in the wilderness. That's what the Powers That Be want us to feel and, through their mass-media, make us feel. Guess what: (1) We're right & they're wrong; (2) we're the majority; and (3) Leftists and Tea Partiers agree with each other on many issues. More than we agree with the Powers That Be.

By way of proof, the show offers words by "minority" types the "mainstream" media seldom quote: African-Americans Mumia Abu-Jamal & Glen Ford, Afro-Caribbean Englishman Benjamin Zephaniah, Appalachian White Joe Bageant, & moi. (Yes, I know, it's an All Male Cast this week.)

Does any articulate thoughts & feelings close to your own?

The show courageously declines to play the song, "Smile on your brother / Everybody get together, / Try to love one another right now." However, we do go out on a bit of "Fingertips, Part 2" . . . .

Top: Mumia Abu-Jamal. Bottom: Glen Ford (at MIT, in January 2010)

The video of Benjamin Zephaniah's "Rong Radio Station" is worth a look. Thanks to fellow radio guy Tereza Coraggio, producer of Third Paradigm, for turning me on to it.

False-Flag Operations, Part 2

New World Notes News
Vol. 3, No. 14 -- April 3, 2010

This Week in New World Notes, radio program #109, April 6:

False-Flag Operations,
Part 2

Spanish Plots . . . Spanish Treachery . . . England Believes It
Foul Play
. . . Crisis Is At Hand. . . . Any resemblance to the media's
role in the invasion of Iraq is strictly coincidental. Somebody check to
see if Judith Miller's grandfather worked for Hearst. . . . The
Maine
exploded in Havana harbor on February 15, 1898.

Most graphics: Click to enlarge.
A current U.S. Navy history of the Maine notes that "The survivors
of the disaster were taken on board . . . Spanish cruiser Alfonso XII. The
Spanish officials at Havana showed every attention to the survivors of the
disaster and great respect for those killed. The court of inquiry convened
in March was unable to obtain evidence associating the destruction of the
battleship with any person or persons, but public opinion in the United
States was so inflamed that the Maine disaster led eventually to the
declaration of war on Spain 21 April."

That last sentence is disingenuous. In fact, the McKinley
Administration had decided to go to war with Spain long
before the
Maine exploded and used the misfortune to rouse
public support for launching a war that had few justifications.

In brief:

"False-flag" ops are incidents used to justify war or abolition of civil liberties. These incidents are staged, or misrepresented, or imaginary.

This week I review the major types of "false-flag operations"--with details on the battleship Maine (1898) and U.S. Air Force provocations of the USSR during the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962). Guess who saved the world in 1962. Nikita Khrushchev! Then ex-MI-5 agent Annie Machon discusses terrorism by both sides in Northern Ireland (1990s), operations Gladio (post-WWII) and Northwoods (1962), and 9-11. Last, she details the huge loss of civil liberties in the U.K. following 9-11.

This week's song: Chumbawamba, Passenger List for Doomed Flight 1721. Download your own copy for free from Chumba's Web site (scroll to bottom of the page).

Correction: In the program I state that the Maine probably exploded from spontaneous combustion of damp "black powder" (gunpowder). The Navy has concluded that spontaneous combustion of coal ignited the powder in an adjacent storeroom. The Navy's brief & good history of the Maine is worth a look.

Top: Secret pen-pals Nikita Khrushchev and JFK. It was the chubby bald guy on the left who, at the expense of his career, prevented the World War III that the generals on both sides (especially ours) were trying hard to bring about. For details & more illustrations, see this site's post, The Story Behind the Greatest Speech You Never Heard.
Bottom: Back in the old days, though, the entire commercial media did not march in lock-step to the rulers' drummer. The waiter depicted is President McKinley. Hey! Those traitorous socialists at the Boston Globe are failing to Support Our Troops!
Cuba was a cakewalk, but the conquest of the Philippines--the U.S.'s main objective--proved a bloody and long struggle. The fiercest opposition to the Yankee invaders was mounted by Muslim insurgents, the "Moros." Some empires never learn--or, more likely, don't give a damn. Mark Twain scathingly denounced the campaign in "A Defence of General Funston" and other essays.

False-Flag Operations: An Introduction

New World Notes News
Vol. 3, No. 13 -- March 27, 2010

This Week in New World Notes, program #108, March 30:

False-Flag Operations:
An Introduction

Former MI-5 spy--and now whistleblower--Annie Machon.
Most graphics: Click to enlarge.

In brief:

"False-flag" ops. are incidents used by the authorities to justify war or the revoking of civil liberties. These incidents are staged, or misrepresented, or imaginary. Ex-MI-5 agent Annie Machon discusses the London IRA bombings (1990s) and the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in London (1994). The latter, it turns out, was done by . . . Israel itself--for a purpose. I discuss the faked Polish invasion of Germany (1939), Gulf of Tonkin incident (1964), bombing of 3 Russian apartment buildings (1999), and the Underwear Bomber scam (December 2009). I try my hardest not to call 9-11 a false-flag op. Plus expert Rufus T. Firefly.

Top: the Reichstag fire, the morning after it began. The German parliament building was set ablaze on the night of February 27, 1933, possibly with the connivance of the NSDAP (Nazi party). Newly-installed Chancellor Hitler and cohort blamed the arson on the communists, persuaded President Hindenberg to suspend civil liberties (cf. the USA-PATRIOT Act), unseated and imprisoned left-wing MPs, and consolidated their own power. By removing the communist MPs, the Nazi party increased its lead in parliament from a plurality to a majority.
Bottom: On August 7, 1964--following in imaginary attack on a U.S. naval ship in Vietnam--Congress overwhelmingly passed a resolution giving the President carte blanche to wage war against the Vietnamese. A massive escalation of the war followed.

Coming Soon -- Tuesday debut date shown:

  • April 6 -- False-Flag Operations, Part 2. K.D. discusses the battleship Maine, the reasons the U.S. started the Spanish-American War, and USAF attempts to provoke the Soviet Union during the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962). Annie Machon explains false-flag terrorism in Northern Ireland (1990s), operations Gladdio and Northwoods, and the great loss of civil liberties in the U.K. following 9-11.

Catch New World Notes (all times Eastern):

In September 1999, Russian state security forces bombed apartment buildings in three cities of the Russian Federation, including Moscow. Blamed on "Chechen terrorists," the incidents were used to justify Russia's invason of the troublesome Republic of Chechnya at the end of September. For some reason, the "Chechen terrorists" chose to bomb only low-rent apartment buildings.
Top: Propaganda photocollage. Note sinister "terrorist" in the center. Doesn't look at all like President Putin. Bottom: First-responders carry one of the 300 murder victims.

Airport Security and Related Scams

New World Notes News
Vol. 3, No. 12 -- March 19, 2010

This Week in New World Notes, radio program #107, March 23:

Airport Security and Related Scams

Precursor and spiritual ancestor of the Transportation Security Administration
(TSA): Mack Sennett's The Keystone Kops. Most graphics: Click to enlarge.

Executive summary

Twenty years ago, airports and commercial aircraft were scenes of Orwellian mind-control (hear George Carlin in this installment). And those were the good old days! After 9/11, the police state--fortunately run by the Keystone Kops--seized our airports (hear Jimmy Tingle, Michael Parenti). As we lead up to the preposterous Underwear Bomber scam of last Christmas (hear me, Jim Hightower, & Jon Stewart), we hear from student Nicholas George, busted for trying to carry "learn Arabic" flash cards onto a plane. It is to laugh--and the show does (between screams of outrage).

Bottom: Maidenform bra ad, apparently from 1963. Somehow, the
extremely long-running "I Dreamed ..." ad campaign never tried, "I
dreamed I blew up an airliner with PETN explosives in my Maidenform
bra ... and panties." A pity.

  • April 6 -- False-Flag Operations, Part 2

Terrorist suspect Nicholas George, here cleverly disguised as a harmless
backpacker and college student. The TSA, Philadelphia Police, and FBI
were too smart to fall for that old trick. George was busted for trying to
carry basic-Arabic-vocabulary "flash cards" onto a commercial flight.
Why do you think they call them "flash" cards, eh?! Good work, officers!
Mack Sennett would be proud.

Catch New World Notes (all times Eastern):

Populist commentator Jim Hightower. The former Texas state
official (State Agriculture Commissioner) can recognize a scam--
such as full-body scanners in airports--when he smells one.

Merchants of Fear

New World Notes News
Vol. 3, No.5 -- January 30, 2010

This Week in New World Notes, radio program #100, Feb. 2:

Merchants of Fear

Executive summary

Governments get citizens to act against their interets (e.g., by going to war) by scaring them bleepless. We'll hear a talk by historian Howard Zinn*, quoting Hermann Goering on the subject . . . a "public service" announcement and program warning of the imminent threat of terrorist attacks, which could be launched by anybody (from 2009!) . . . a warning from Postmaster General John E. Potter (2001) on the signs an envelope iin your mailbox could be full of anthrax. Plus a digression on an earlier P.G.'s comic anti-smut crusade.

Notes and Credits

Why the big increase in scary terrorism warnings in late 2009? Is this a prelude to a fake "trigger incident," followed by a war on Syria or Iran? (Or is Venezuela the next on the list?)

Don't miss Postmaster Potter's unintentionally hilarious list of 7 warning signs of an envelope containing anthrax in your mailbox. One is, "It comes from someone you don't know or are not expecting to hear from." And goes downhill from there.

A note on the painting

"Whittling" was painted by (formerly local) artist David Weinholtz and published in our blog entry and newsletter for October 28, 2008--a week before the national election. A few words by me accompanied it:

Let's hope or pray that next year Whittling will require
updating, and the updating will require more than just
painting out the elephant and painting in a donkey.

So much for hoping and praying. What's left?

* Coda:

I just learned--after writing all of the above, and weeks after recording this program--that Howard Zinn died, at age 87, on January 27. For decades, Zinn has been a strong voice advocating democracy, justice, peace, . . . and the importance of learning history. His loss is a hard blow to us who share his values and to the great causes he struggled to advance. R.I.P.
